Muffins with Mom

It’s almost time for Muffins with Mom! Don’t miss the chance to have some special time with your child. Following are the dates:

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week will be February 13-17. This is a special time for us to show our teachers how much we appreciate their dedication to our children. We would like to honor our teachers every day this week. This year’s theme is We Love Our Academy Award-Winning Teachers!

DVD Orders for 2nd Grade Performance

We will be accepting orders for DVDs of the 2nd grade performance now through February 10. The cost is $15 for one and $10 for each additional copy. Second grade teachers emailed the forms to the parents last week. If you did not receive the email or need another copy of the form, contact Lisa Miller at lmiller@acuitasinc.com.

Please make checks payable to King Springs PTA. You can send your form and payment in with your child and label it “DVD orders.” We will also be accepting orders the night of the performance, February 2.

Sip Event a Huge Success!

On Sunday, January 22, three local schools partnered with Sip Riverside Restaurant to sponsor an adult night out for our parents and staff members. It was a packed house with wine tasting and a delicious tapas buffet. Gift cards donated by SIP Riverside and Chick-fil-A South Cobb Drive were also raffled off. Proceeds from this event will be divided between Griffin Middle, King Springs Elementary, and Nickajack Elementary schools in order to support the Rachel’s Challenge program and other PTA projects. KSE made over $800!

Special thanks to Cliff Sinon, SIP general manager, for a very successful event.  The food, drinks, atmosphere, and the company all contributed to a very enjoyable, child-free evening. Plans are in the works for this to become an annual event.

Another upcoming event that you might be interested in: The First Annual Casino Night and Silent Auction, sponsored by the Nickajack Foundation & Nickajack PTA. This will be held at Sip Riverside on April 29, 2012; tickets will go on sale in March.

KSE Named National School of Distinction

Congratulations to KSE for earning the National School of Distinction status from the Schools Fight Hunger program for its food drive.  The National School of Distinction status is awarded to schools that demonstrate notable enthusiasm, creativity or dedication in getting involved with the hunger cause.  Fewer than 2,000 schools earned that status in the 2010-11 school year. Way to go, KSE!

3rd Grade Performance DVDs

The deadline for 3rd grade performance DVD orders is Thursday, November 10.  The cost of the DVD is $15.  We obtained appropriate copyright permission to do this.  If you need an order form, contact Lisa Miller at lmiller@acuitasinc.com.  Thanks to Ms. Chase for a wonderful performance!

Box Tops Contest

Lots of people have been busy trimming and counting their box tops.  Keep up the good work!  Starting November 7, let’s see who can send in the most box tops.  Don’t worry–we haven’t forgotten about all the hard work you may have already done.  You will still get credit for your contributions.  The contest ends December 9.  Go to www.boxtops4education.com for creative and fun collection sheets, then neatly trim your boxtops and place them on the sheets.  Make sure your name is printed clearly on your sheets so we can give you credit.  We will announce the winners on KSTV the week of December 12.  Good luck and happy collecting!

Sparkles Night

Sparkles Night is Thursday, November 17, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.  Admission is $4.50 and includes skating, skate rental and playground.  Non-skating parents are free.  Teachers are free with school ID.  Sparkles is located at 666 Smyrna Hill Drive in Smyrna. www.sparklesrollerrinks.com

KSE Book Fair @ Barnes & Noble

KSE’s Book Fair is being held at Barnes & Noble’s Cumberland location November 12-14.  On Saturday, November 12, there will be a performance by the Melody Makers, face painting, teachers gift wrapping purchases, a drawing for a Shel Silverstein book, and more!  Can’t attend?  Visit www.bn.com/bookfairsto support us online from November 12-14 by entering the KSE Book Fair ID 10579403 at checkout.  Ask family and friends to purchase online or in any Barnes & Noble store and give our ID # between November 12-14.  A percentage of your Barnes & Noble purchase will benefit KSE.

Family Fitness Events

The Family Fitness committee is sponsoring another Walk to School Wednesday on Wednesday, November 9.  Also, don’t forget that on Sunday, November 13, from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Family Fitness is holding an event at the Campbell High School track.

Come out and walk or run a few laps of the track and enjoy some relay races, soccer drills and football tosses with your friends at KSE.

Yearbook Sales

Order your KSE yearbook early and SAVE!  Through November 30, you may purchase a yearbook for $20.  Everyone who buys during the month of November will be
entered into a drawing for the chance to win a yearbook. The top three classes with the most sales in November will win a popsicle party.  Yearbooks will also be on sale between January 10-31 for $22.  Look for a yearbook order form to come home in your child’s folder, or you may order online at ybpay.lifetouch.com.

KSE Food Drive

Help those in need this holiday season!  King Springs Elementary will be again holding a food drive the week prior to Thanksgiving (November 14- 18).  Bring your food and drop it off in the food drive boxes placed by the entrances of the school.

Any items are appreciated but top needed food items include:

• peanut butter
• canned tuna
• canned beans
• canned soups
• stews and pastas
• 100% fruit juice
• canned fruits and vegetables
• macaroni and cheese dinners
• whole grain, low sugar cereals

Most needed non-food items include:

• diapers (any size)
• baby wipes
• toilet tissue
• paper towels
• toothpaste and toothbrushes
• bath soap

Save the Date: Holiday Breakfast

Mark your calendars for a Holiday Breakfast sponsored by the Melody Makers.  On December 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., come get in the holiday spirit.  Admission is
only $5 and includes breakfast and one activity.  Additional activities can be purchased for $1 each. Want to play some fun reindeer games, create a holiday ornament, face paint, paint your nails, experience Hanukkah, and get your picture made with Frosty and Santa?  Then be present for the fun holiday breakfast.  Parents, do your holiday shopping with our basket raffle.  Each basket is worth more than $50.  There will also be raffles for front row seats and parking places for the PTA programs.  See you there!

Save the Date: King Springs Golf Classic

This year’s golf tournament will be bigger and better than ever!  We will hold the event at Smyrna’s own Legacy Golf Links on Sunday, May 6, 2012.  Teams of up to four players will compete for great prizes, and each golfer will receive a goody bag full of valuable gifts, 18 holes of golf, fun contests on the course, a golf cart, and lunch. After the tournament, join other golfers at Bella’s Pizzeria for a full buffet-style meal, which is included in your player fee.  The cost per player is $100.

We are currently looking for tournament sponsors. There are two levels of sponsorship: for $100 your company’s logo will be placed on one of the tees.  For $500, your company’s logo will be placed on all printed literature and four golfers golf for free.  The proceeds will directly benefit the blacktop renovation and the Dads’ Club student project.  For more information on how you can get involved, contact Chris Vreeland at 404.626.0432 or chrisvreeland@bellsouth.net OR kingspringspta@gmail.com.

IBM Grant Update

The IBM grant has been submitted.  Thanks to all who contributed, including the Dads’ Club and IBM and PTA volunteers.  Special thanks to Brant Campbell, who helped us finalize the grant and solicit IBM volunteers.
