Conference Week
The KSE Hospitality Committee, a.k.a. “the food committee”, would like to invite those of you who love to cook to help us make Conference Week a TREAT for our teachers. The PTA is hosting a lunch for the teachers each day of Conference Week, being held this week.
If you love to cook and want to share some of your favorite recipes, our KSE staff would love to taste your creations. Log onto Volunteer Spot and see our wish list items (link below). You are not limited to what you see in Volunteer Spot, so if you make something awesome that is not on the list, make it anyway!
Please use disposable serveware. We try our best not to lose dishes each year, but unfortunately it does happen. Someone may pick up the wrong dish, name tags come off in washing, etc. Dishes will be cleaned and placed in the copy room near the front office.
We kindly ask that you drop off your food items to the Media Center by 11:00 a.m. the day you are donating. We request that your items be cooked and ready to serve. We can keep your food donation warm, but we do not have the ability to cook your items. The lunch will be held in the Media Center.
Here are the food themes by day:
Monday: brunch
Tuesday: soups, salads, and breads
Wednesday: sandwiches
Thursday: soups, salads, and breads (The teachers love soup day, so we’ve decided to have it twice thisyear!)
Friday: desserts
If you would like to donate, but just don’t have the time, there is a wish list item of $5. Just place your donation in an envelope addressed to “PTA for Conference Week.” We’ll take care of the rest. We will use the money to buy sandwich platters for Wednesday and then whatever else we may be lacking. Checks should be made payable to King Springs PTA.
As always, THANK YOU for your support! This is a great event every year and we couldn’t do it without you. Please click on the link below to sign up.

IBM Grant Update
Many thanks to the 25 IBM volunteers and 15 KSE volunteers who helped clean up school grounds last week. Numerous projects were completed, including planting liriope and flowers, trimming trees and bushes, cleaning up Gillespie Garden, moving pinestraw to needed areas, retrenching and weeding the dry river bed in the back, removing a large pile of mulch from the playground, and cleaning up the front fence line.
The grounds look amazing! The best part is that we have met the requirements to get the $5,000 grant. If you haven’t seen the school lately, take a close look. In addition to the grounds clean-up, KSE recently got a new coat of paint. Big shout out to the Dads’ Club for the painting prep work, and to the Drinnon family for painting the school.
It is amazing what a community can do when we put our hearts and hands into it. Thanks to everyone who helped with this huge project!
3rd Grade Performance DVDs
It can be a challenge to take video of our children’s performances. In an effort to alleviate this, we will have an independent videographer record the 3rd grade performance on November 3. We plan to have two videographers for this performance because there will be a lot of movement onstage. DVDs will be available for purchase for $15.
This week, the 3rd grade teachers will be e-mailing a presale form to parents. If you are interested, please send the form and payment in with your child. We will accept orders through November 10. After the DVDs are produced, they will be sent safely home in the children’s folders.
Any money made from the sales will go to the music department for the purchase of supplies. Our plan is to offer this for all future performances, as long as we can obtain the necessary copyright releases. For more information, please contact Lisa Miller at lmiller@acuitasinc.com.
Sparkles Night
Sparkles Night is Thursday, November 17, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Admission is $4.50 and includes skating, skate rental and playground. Non-skating parents are free. Teachers are free with school ID. Sparkles is located at 666 Smyrna Hill Drive in Smyrna. www.sparklesrollerrinks.com
Halloween Costume Fundraiser
Again this year, King Springs PTA is participating in the Wholesale Costume Club fundraiser. The costumes are being sold at discounted prices to registered members. This is a fundraising event and for every costume ordered, KSE will receive 15% of the purchased amount.
To order costumes, go to www.wholesalecostumeclub.com. You must register as a member to get the discounted member prices. After selecting your items, click “checkout now.” You must enter promo code “FUN542” with no spaces, and the $5 member fee will be waived and KSE will get credit for the purchase.
For more information, please contact Lisa Miller at lmiller@acuitasinc.com or 770.401.2045.
KSE Book Fair @ Barnes & Noble
Save the date for a KSE Book Fair at Barnes & Noble, being held November 12-14. KSE will receive a percentage of purchases made on those dates. Out of town family and friends may also participate. Most everything in the store qualifies, so make plans to tackle some of your holiday shopping at Barnes & Noble!

KSE Food Drive
Help those in need this holiday season! King Springs Elementary will be again holding a food drive the week prior to Thanksgiving (November 14 – 18). Bring your food and drop it off in the food drive boxes placed by the entrances of the school.
Any items are appreciated but top needed food items include:
• peanut butter
• canned tuna
• canned beans
• canned soups
• stews and pastas
• 100% fruit juice
• canned fruits and vegetables
• macaroni and cheese dinners
• whole grain, low sugar cereals
Most needed non-food items include:
• diapers (any size)
• baby wipes
• toilet tissue
• paper towels
• toothpaste and toothbrushes
• bath soap
This food drive benefits the Center for Family Resources here in Cobb County. Every little bit helps, so no donation is too small! Questions? Contact Ken or Amy Crowell at amycrowell@yahoo.com.
Save the Date: King Springs Golf Classic
This year’s golf tournament will be bigger and better than ever! We will hold the event at Smyrna’s own Legacy Golf Links on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Teams of up to four players will compete for great prizes, and each golfer will receive a goody bag full of valuable gifts, 18 holes of golf, fun contests on the course, a golf cart, and lunch. After the tournament, join other golfers at Bella’s Pizzeria for a full buffet-style meal, which is included in your player fee. The cost per player is $100.
We are currently looking for tournament sponsors. There are two levels of sponsorship: for $100 your company’s logo will be placed on one of the tees. For $500, your company’s logo will be placed on all printed literature and four golfers golf for free.
The proceeds will directly benefit the blacktop renovation and the Dads’ Club student project. For more information on how you can get involved, contact Chris Vreeland at 404.626.0432 or chrisvreeland@bellsouth.net OR kingspringspta@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support. See you on the course!
